i've been a stay-at-home dad for a year now - (alison and i managed mae's first year together)...
i've learned a lot - and i've come a long, long way in the parenting skillz department. i think the toughest thing for me is the isolation - not just when i'm at home with mae - but when i'm out and about --- for the most part, it's a woman's world when it comes to raising babies - and i can tell you i have more respect for ANYONE who spends their time raising a child (or two - or THREE!) - it's a tough job.
back to the isolation -- women are suspect of men with children - and it takes a good while before you gain trust and are allowed into the inner circle of stay-at-home moms. they're a tough group! but once you gain trust -- they actually are damn fun to be around -- and crazy - just crazy -- and i understand why - now.
it's nice to stop and have a chat whenever i see mom's from our sing-song group - or from the drop-in center -- it's just nice to have adult conversation at least once during the day...
mae is growing -- and i feel as if i am, too... we do pretty well together...
