Here's a great rule of photography I should have remembered to follow: Know Thy Camera. Simple rule. You probably are thinking, "oh yeah, I got that one down pat". I thought so, too. That is until I had this conversation today with a nice Swedish man at the Hasselblad Company:
me: Uh, hi. I'm a photographer. Could you tell me what's wrong with my photos?
him: What seems to be the problem?
me: Here's my url, take a look for yourself.
him: (tapping sound) Nice photos for an American.
me: Gee, thanks. I try.
him: I see nothing which would indicate a fault with the camera.
me: Look at the corners. See the fall off?
him: Ja
me: Should my camera do such a thing?
him: Nope
me: What gives?
him: Tell me young man, what lens hood do you have on your camera?
me: hold on a sec - I'll go look.
him: Ja, okay.
me: Uh
him: 50mm shade, Ja?
me: Ja
him: wrong one
me: Tack så mycket
him: whatever - next time, know thy camera
me: Uh
him: CLICK
