I rode a little over 450 miles on my motorcycle this weekend. I managed to take Lainey out for nice walks, too -- and I worked out. Not a bad weekend all in all.
These two photos -- one taken on Saturday -- and one today. Yesterday was a stellar day - and today wasn't bad at all -- until the rains came around 4 o'clock. On both days, I went to the beach - along Lake Michigan. I don't know what draws me there, but I love it there - I've taken more photos than I can remember along the shoreline. I've taken lots of night shots, and I was thinking today that October is really the first full moon that's worthwhile to get out under to photograph. I'm hoping to be out there next month. I have some new ideas. I've take A LOT of time away from photography lately - but for good reason - I needed to refresh my mind - I needed to clear out the cobwebs - and all that jazz... I think I'm there - finally. I managed to take a few nice images this weekend - and stored away several of them in my mind for a later time - when the light is just right. The fall is upon us - and the light couldn't be better at that time of year. Get ready - it'll be great fun.
While riding today, I was thinking about my rules of photography -- and here's one I love -- Take time away from it all -- I mean, REALLY take time from it all. Don't read magazines - don't take photos - nothing. Do something else - find something else (like I did with my motorbike) - and immerse yourself in it - forget about photography -- just forget about it. Guess what? It will find you again -- and it'll sneak up on you before you know it. It's true. I know. It snuck back up on me today around 1 PM.
I was driving by my favorite race horse farm - I had to pull over. Santino - he's the leader of the horse pack - came over to say hi and to get some sugar. The owner of the farm came by, too -- Dean -- he wanted to know about my motorcycle - and wanted to know what I've been doing lately with my photography. I turned and took a photo of Santino (I'll post it later) and in that instant - I was hooked -- again.
Lesson / Rule -- take time away -- refresh your mind -- find something else to fill-in -- and keep it there -- and then when photography shows back up -- you'll enjoy both - and find a way to make room for them both...
Life is good.
Enjoy your week.
